THE VISION

Twenty years from the time of writing this, the year will be 2038, and I will be 37 years old. Twenty years from now I have no idea what I will be doing. All I know for now is that I am obsessed with the idea of creating things and I want to live a life doing a creative career. Most likely though I will probably go into Film, whether that be commercial, a feature story, or maybe a short films for festivals. Possibly even photography for freelance on peoples weddings or commercial, and here is my plan how I can get there.

In the fall of 2019, I will be starting my first year in college and major in film. For the next two years, I will focus on getting my GE’s done while simultaneously getting a sense of what kind of films I want to make. After those two years, I will focus wholeheartedly on developing my craft in filmmaking and making connections with other like-minded creators so we can create mind-blowing films together.

After I graduate from school I will jump straight into the industry by contacting all the people I have made connections with and see if they can hook me up with a film job position. In the industry, I plan on starting out as a Production Assistant (PA) and start working my way up the corporate ladder to the position of video editor of a feature film, tv series, or whatever production project I end up working for. After that, it is up to me to always continue to improve my craft in filmmaking and video editing to keep my job, as the film industry is a very competitive field.

If working as a film production assistant or becoming an editor does not work out, I plan to work on freelance commercial work. At the same time, I will develop my work further to better my portfolio as I make more connections. After some time of doing this, I will have built up a client base of people that I know that I can work with on projects and have a steady flow of income depending on the amount of work that I choose to take up. Doing this will take longer to become financially stable, but it is not about the money—it is about the work and passion that I put in that will push me to work harder on the things that I love. After I become more proficient in my trade, I can worry about making a living off of it.

Wherever life takes me, I know that I will end up okay, because I have a good sense of direction where I am going in life. If I get lost, I have friends, family, and people that I know that I can turn to, to help me find my way back.
